![]() ![]() I knew it was formed in the years before the Second World War, and that it contained accounts of ordinary people’s lives (people all over the country sent answers to questionnaires and copies of their diaries each month), but I had no idea about the range or detail of the material. I first learnt about Mass Observation at school, but knew very little about it. The editor mentioned it to a colleague who knew of my interest in working with oral history and personal testimonies, and not long afterwards I found myself at the Falmer campus near Brighton with my jaw dropping open. The book came about after an editor at Ebury Press/Random House made contact with the Mass Observation archive at the University of Sussex with the hope that there may be a good book to be made from all that wonderful material. I’d love to claim full credit for the birth and success of Our Hidden Lives, but I’d feel guilty and get sarcastic phonecalls. ![]() Watch the BBC drama based on the book About The Book ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() David Gemmell first got the idea for Legend in 1976 when he was diagnosed with cancer. ![]() ![]() The origins for how Legend came to be unfortunately starts on a somber note. Legend is David Gemmell’s first novel published in 1984 and it will forever be defined as the monolith of heroic fantasy for generations to come. These awards have been given to several well established fantasy authors over the years, such as: Brandon Sanderson, John Gwynne, and Brian McClellan to forever remember the contributions of David Gemmell and how he shaped the modern heroes of the fantasy genre. In 2009, the David Gemmell awards for fantasy was established with the goal to “restore fantasy to its proper place in the literary pantheon”. David Gemmell unfortunately passed away in 2006 at the early age of 57, depriving us of any more heroic novels he most certainly would have written. There is always a strong heroic theme in his novels but nearly always the heroes are flawed in some way. Gemmell’s works display violence, yet also explore themes of honor, loyalty and redemption. A former journalist and newspaper editor, Gemmell had his first work of fiction published in 1984. format=png&auto=webp&s=5f32721cb931234ac850bcdb1920a3c405bf6011ĭavid Gemmell born in 1948 was a British author who will forever be associated with heroic fantasy. ![]() ![]() A fortnight with Larry, and his girl Missy, and Bax- an Outdoor Boy with few indoor ideas, is dismal- and loses her Jim Breit who had wanted to marry her. Post-night of orgasmic magic, Alex starts to call, and text, and e-mail and send extravagant-and quirky-gifts, making him difficult to ignore, and even more difficult not to like. But what starts out as a one-night stand, quickly turns into something more. In what can only be considered a complete lapse in judgment, Violet finds out just how good Alex is with the hockey stick in his pants. But when Alex inadvertently obliterates Violet’s previous misapprehension regarding the inferior intellect of hockey players, he becomes more than just a hot body with a face to match. Violet isn’t interested in his pretty, beat-up face, or his rock-hard six-pack abs. That is until she meets the legendary team captain-Alex Waters. She’s smart enough to steer clear of those hot, well-built boys with unparalleled stamina. With a famous NHL player for a step-brother, Violet Hall is well acquainted with the playboy reputation many hockey stars come with.
