This presentation will introduce over three decades of scientific findings validating the SCID-D and Steinberg’s Five Component Model of Dissociation Assessment. Moreover, the interview’s results can provide a roadmap for patient healing, especially through interviewer feedback. In the hands of an experienced, empathic interviewer, the SCID-D provides meaningful benefits, both in accelerating the therapeutic relationship and eliciting material about a patient’s inner world. But the SCID-D is more than just a powerful diagnostic instrument. Over 30 years of clinical use and worldwide research support its ability to detect dissociative symptoms and disorders. The SCID-D, considered the gold standard in the field, is an interactive, semi-structured interview for assessing dissociation in adults and adolescents. Dissociation is the mind’s way of coping with overwhelming stress and trauma, and given the ubiquity of trauma, the assessment of dissociation is essential for accurate detection and appropriate treatment. ![]()
